Zoho for iPad disappoints

I received an email today from Zoho, which encouraged me to download and try their new iPad app.

I’ve been an occasional Zoho user. Basically it competes with Google Docs, which I tend to use more frequently, although I’m happy to commit to either if it offers anything particularly outstanding.

I haven’t adopted Zoho as my primary email and cloud-based docs service because it doesn’t synchonise with an Android phone in the way Google does.

I think it’s healthy though that Google has an innovative high-quality competitor.

A few weeks ago I was disappointed to discover a Zoho Mail app for Android, which didn’t really offer anything more than a browser-based experience. Read the rest of this entry »

Yahoo! and MyBlogLog

I rather liked MyBlogLog for a while. It never took off like Facebook or Twitter, but had the potential to do so.

The email I received from Yahoo! today regarding its future was clinical, to say the least:

“You have been identified as a customer of Yahoo! MyBlogLog. We will officially discontinue Yahoo! MyBlogLog effective May 24, 2011. Your agreement with Yahoo!, to the extent that it applies to the Yahoo! MyBlogLog, will terminate on May 24, 2011.”

The link to questions and answers took me to an advertiser site for featured listings.

This reminded me of AltaVista, which was once a search engine to rival Google and Yahoo! I had an AltaVista email account too, which the company removed to focus (unsuccessfully) on searching.

Inner city development

I like the idea of Australian cities developing inwards and, to a degree, upwards. We have too much urban sprawl in state capitals.

The Age today reported plans to build a new suburb in Melbourne’s dockside area at Fishermans Bend.

An Urban Renewal Authority will be set up to steer a 20-year plan for the project, which has potential to house thousands of people on 200 hectares just a few kilometres from the CBD.

I’d like to see a similar concept explored for sections of the Adelaide parklands, especially between the railway line and West Terrace.
